1. Look around the room and find an object that catches your eye. This object can be anything but a person. Write a piece which incorporates that object in some pivotal way.
2. Close your eyes, take a deep breath, and imagine yourself in a place where you feel peaceful. Now think of a character that you are working on (or a favorite character) and place them in that setting. Imagine seeing that place through your character’s eyes, how would their reactions to it differ from your own? Write a short encounter between the character and the place.
3. Think of a list of ordinary chores that your character (or a favorite character) might do on a daily basis. Do a free write placing the character in the midst of the ordinary, but make your reader experience prose that is anything but mundane.
