Cambridge Writers’ Group: Exercises

Thursday February 8, 2007

Take 15 – 20 minutes to complete one of these exercises.

1. Close your eyes and imagine that you are in a room. Place an object in that room, and write a short free write from the perspective of that object.

2. "I tried not to hold my breath, but I couldn't force myself to exhale even if I wanted to. I knew that the sight would stay with me forever." Use this sentence as a jumping off point for your writing.

3. Imagine a pungent odor. Write several words describing the odor. Take a character or a situation about which you are currently working and try to work in that odor in a short free write.
